What is Geogard Ultra?

An 80% natural preservative that is perfect for use in cosmetic products such as creams, lotions and moisturisers, shampoos and conditioners.

A blend of D-Glucono-1,5-Lactone (74.25%), Sodium benzoate (24.75%) and Calcium gluconate (1.0%), the combination of gluconolactone and sodium benzoate in this ingredient offer broad spectrum protection and act as an efficient 'preservative booster' where the slow release of Gluconic Acid over time will contribute to the overall preservation effect.

How to use Geogard Ultra

Normally used in formulations at 0.75-2%, it is not heat sensitive so it can be used at both room and elevated temperatures. It is soluble in water so it should be added to the water phase of your product. Simply add it to water and mix thoroughly for a few minutes until dissolved. It's pH is 3-6 and product is soluable in Water and Glycerine, dispersible in Propylene Glycol, Mineral Oil and Alkyl Sulfates. Geogard Ultra will preserve most water based cosmetic creations, including lotions and cream bases as well as shampoos. 

When handling Geogard Ultra, use gloves and goggles to protect the eyes and skin from irritation.

History and origins of Geogard Ultra

Produced in Italy, it is approved by, and conforms to, the standards of COSMOS/ECOCERT, The Soil Association and NATRUE, meaning it can be used in certified organic cosmetic products. This product is also guaranteed palm free.

How is Geogard Ultra made?

Originating from organic acids that act as an efficient preservative, the gluconolactone is produced by fermenting natural glucose which is derived from non GMO corn. However, sodium benzoate is synthetic and is petroleum based. The calcium gluconate is produced from a mineral calcium source, and fermented glucose. It contains no parabens or formaldehyde releasers.
